About this hike:

The Galisteo Basin is a preserve just south of Santa Fe that offers multiple hiking options via numbered trail segments. The area is also well suited for mountain bikes, with relatively easy grades up and down the hills. The hike is also referred to as the "Cowboy Shack" Trail.

As you hike any of the sections, the views of the mountains are splendid in every direction - from the San Pedros, Ortiz, Sandias, Cerrillos Hills and the Sangre de Cristos to the Pecos Region, and Jemez. Even Mount Taylor is visible from the ridge tops. The trails are well-maintained and there are trail maps at many of the segment junctions. The Conservancy group is extending the available trails yearly.
