TRAIL TIPS!
If going on the weekend, check first for events at 'Cowboy Shack' (the trailhead identifier), or 'Galisteo Basin'. This hike took place when a huge marathon event was happening and the parking lot was jam-packed. Luckily for us, the marothoners were taking the southeastern trails and were otherise not seen.
The Galisteo Basin has numerous criss-crossing trails to explore, and provides some nice basin views. This hike follows a loop with some moderate elevation changes and views along the ridge. From here, much of the Santa Fe foothill area and Sangre de Cristo mountains could be seen, along with the expanese of the Galisteo Basin.
